The Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services was established in 1975 and is a Department of the Ministry of Communications and Works. It is engaged in planning, designing, executing and maintaining government electromechanical projects and ensures the proper maintenance of the electrical and mechanical installations and equipment of all government buildings.

The Department of Public Works was established in 1878 and after the declaration of independence of the Republic of Cyprus is operating under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works. One of his main activities is the Design or management of designs that are carried out by the private sector, supervision and management of the contracts for the construction, improvement and maintenance of government and other buildings.
